Honest storytelling is a MUST in the world of modern advertising – and starts with who has a seat at the table at your agency (catch that Solange reference?). Singer #Beyonce sent shockwaves through the branding community when she turned away from what would have been an iconic collaboration with a large athletic brand. Her reasoning was due to the lack of diversity in the creative team pitching to represent her #IvyPark collection (see our story for more on this). While this dialogue is new, and ongoing, the message is clear: #Representation matters, and without it, not only brands – but the agencies they hire – may miss the mark.

Our advice? Make sure the audience you represent is in the room, and make sure your work is vetted by stakeholders in the narrative you’re telling.
