In yet another “not in the cards for 2020” moment, Santa Claus is buying gifts online. You heard us right – even Mr. Claus has to adapt to a pandemic world. ????????????
It’s no surprise that with brick-and-mortar stores closing shop throughout the year, the jump in e-commerce has been… dramatic.
According to a new report from @sejournal, Shopify reported a 76% YoY increase in sales during BFCM, Amazon saw a 60% increase, and Adobe estimates $9 billion dollars were spent online on Black Friday alone.
And if you’re thinking this is just natural Q4 spending mania, think again. The convenience and safety of online delivery coupled with strict stay-at-home regulations saw online shopping increase in some states by as much as 265% this year.
The numbers are mind boggling. But one thing is sure, it’s not enough to just be an online retailer. We all need to take a page out of Santa’s book and examine our range of media, invest in our IT, and brace for this permanent shift in the retail landscape. Goodbye Santa’s workshop, hello Santa’s Shopify site. ????☃️
